2nd week of school

We made it through our first week. It seems as though we have been in school for months:)

This week we celebrate our 50th Anniversary! 50 years of EXCELLENCE  and each of you are now part of history at East Point Elementary School. Just a reminder that on Thursday we will have a celebration parade at 8:30 celebrating former faculty of East Point. On Thursday, we are asking everyone to wear a throwback East Point shirt. On Friday, those of you that are purchasing the 50th Anniversary shirt are asked to wear them on that day, everyone else is asked to wear an East Point shirt on this day.

CEIC members please remember we have a CEIC meeting this Wednesday at 3:00.

Dual language teachers in Pre K- 1 will have a training on Imagine Learning Espanol from 3:00-3:45 in the lab on Aug. 30. This has been on the calendar so all dual language teachers do need to be in attendance.

Don't forget about your timelines for DRA and IStation testing.

Please submit and post your SMART goals by end of the week please.

ELL dual language tutoring for 2nd -6th grade students begins on Sept. 7. Tutoring for all students K-6 starts September 13.  You will receive the letters and rosters via email. Please send out your tutoring permission slips a week prior to the start date. Grade level chairs, please provide a tutoring list to the front office so we are aware of what students you have for tutoring.

A friendly reminder that your Teaching Partner responses are due on Sept. 15. Your TTESS goals and paraprofessional goals are due by Sept. 16.

Grandparent's Day celebration will be next Friday. I discussed the times in last weeks blog so please take note.

16 de septiembre parade will be on Sept. 16. We will have our first Social Studies parent night on the 15 of September from 5:30-6:30. There will be a sign in and out sheet for teachers.

Our first early release is on September 28. Instead of having PD on early release and then staying late on Thursdays until 4:15 we will change our practice on early release days. We will stay until 4:15 on early release days and then on the next day you can leave at 3:30. That would give you an extra afternoon of planning and getting ready for the next week.

Happy August Birthdays to... Hope your day is as special as each of you.

First week of School

Our babies will be coming through our hallways Monday morning. You don't get to make a first impression on a child or a parent on the first day of school. Make this day memorable and an opportunity for them to want to come back each and every day.

A special shout out to Tony Paiz who has also created a blog for his class. Way to go Mr. Paiz.

Our district has implemented guiding tenants. WE have all been asked to follow and incorporate the following... Accountability, Integrity, Collaboration, Innovation, Consistency, Stewardship and Respect.

Please make sure everyone has updated your voicemail on your classroom phones, changed your email signatures to reflect your correct school and grade level and logged on to Eduphoria to update your profile. Please have all of these done before leaving on next Friday.

We have two upcoming BIG events coming in the next 2 weeks. Our 50th Anniversary Celebration and Grandparents Day.  On Thursday, September 1, 2016 we will have a brunch for former East Point employees. We will have a celebration parade at 8:30 for these individuals. On Friday, it will be Welcome Open House all day for former students. Specific details will be sent to team leaders. We will have large jumping balloons during the day for our students (used during their PE time) and then from 5:30-7:30 we will have the community carnival celebration. We will be on rainy day schedule on this day so that an abundance of students won't be outside at once. Water events will ONLY be for the evening carnival.

The following Friday we will celebrate with Grandparent's Day. Pictures will be all morning. Classroom presentations from 7:45-8:30, breakfast from 8:40-9:40. Parade begins at 9:55.

Since many events occur AFTER hours we have been encouraged to get volunteer badges as staff. The grade level or team that gets their volunteer badges will then receive either the choice of an hour lunch where we can cover your teams rooms so you can go as a team to lunch OR leave at 2:00 on a specified Friday that no special events or holidays are occurring. This has to be a team effort. Once the entire team has their badges and shows them to any admin, you will be declared the winner. We have also added the team who gets the most volunteer hours for the month will get that ever delightful 2 weeks of dark denim. Each of you put in so many extra hours, why not log those hours in and get some incentives for your team. If you remember part of TTESS includes community involvement beyond the school day.

50th anniversary T-shirts will be available to anyone who would like to purchase them for $10.00.

5th and 6th grade teachers, please make sure the front office has your rotation schedule.

Everyone is asked to look at your Kim Sutton basic facts materials this week. We are aware that there are items that need to be copied. In order for us to have the order back before we begin, I need the math vertical team members to get your teams packet ready for the first 9 weeks by THIS Friday so we can send it off to print and have it back in enough time for everyone to start on the designated day. Please stop by and see Margie for Kim Sutton place value materials, colored pattern sticks and number lines for students. Those items are already here.

Para's please submit your fliers for clubs to Leina by Friday.

Happy August Birthdays to... Hope your day is as special as each of you.

Welcome East Point Elementary. This is my first post on my blog.Weekly newsletters will be posted here. This is yet another opportunity of technology growth for myself and I hope that someone will try a blog for your class. It was really easy. If I can do it ANYONE can do it. Thank you Susana for helping me. I have kept all my technology goals for the summer and I'm so proud!
